Noordhoek

Noordhoek is a farm village. Not many phrases are more appealing to me than those two words combined: ‘farm’ and ‘village’. The agrarian life mixed with a quaint village life conjures up images of milkmen on bicycles, delivering their wares around cobblestone streets while the milkmaidens (milkwomen, milkladies?) are sitting atop a stool, happily milking a cow, or churning some of it into butter. Completely romantic and unrealistic, I know, but such are the pictures in my mind of a beautiful village life here, or in heaven.

More seriously, Noordhoek is probably as close as you can get to this idyllic lifestyle in Cape Town and you’d either have to move to The Crags, Knysna, Plett area, or to Europe to get any closer. I found myself passing through this wonderful village recently en route to the Peninsula where I had to take photos of all sorts of wonderful things (including penguins, points and such) and knew I had to stop over for a delicious little pie.

Next time I go past I hope to photograph this gem of a place (Monkey Valley – where I have had many a beverage and occasion to celebrate) but till then will have to wait for their call…
